How Beams began
Beams was created by a group of people who’d seen the same problem from different angles — builders frustrated by outdated processes, designers trying to bridge the gap between vision and reality, and technologists who knew renovation could run more smoothly with better tools.

Our founder, Hayden Wood, experienced this firsthand while renovating his home in 2019. Compared to commercial construction, he was struck by how little software or structured planning supported residential projects.
Skilled builders were held back by systems that made simple tasks harder than they needed to be. Homeowners felt overwhelmed by jargon, choices and uncertainty.
At the same time, during Hayden’s years at Bulb, he saw how difficult it was for people to make their homes greener — not because they didn’t want to, but because the process was too complex.

The insight was shared across the team: people want better, greener homes, but renovation gets in the way. Beams was built to fix that — bringing builders, designers and technologists together to simplify renovation from the very start.

Our commitment to making homes greener
Beams is a pending B Corp, and we’re working through the final stages of certification.
That means we hold ourselves to higher standards across transparency, environmental impact and the way we work with homeowners and builders.
We’re building a company that’s good for customers, good for tradespeople and good for the future of housing.

What it’s like to work at Beams
